  • Josie Brislawn is the daughter of Emmett Brislawn and the granddaughter of Bob Brislawn, two of the founders of the Spanish Mustang Registry. Like her grandfather and her father, her life's work has been the caretaking of and the overseeing of the breeding program of one of the largest herds of Spanish Mustangs. Her extensive knowledge regarding this breed has enabled her to participate in competitive and non-competitive events around the country. She has been a member of 4H and has provided a showcase for this wonderful horse to the public via County Fairs and local shows in Wyoming . As the third generation of her family, Josie has demonstrated her devotion to the preservation of this wonderful breed and will continue to carry on the traditions of the SMR. Josie was selected as the representative for the northwestern United States and photographs of her working with the Spanish Mustangs on the Cayuse Ranch appear in the Cowgirl Hall of Fame in Fort Worth,TX.

  • Dick Kalow is the SMR liason to the The Livestock Conservancy. Dick discovered the Spanish Mustang Registry in his research about mustang horses in 2006. Since then, his family has taken a deep dive into efforts to preserve and sustain this important part of our nation’s history. He and his wife Cindy initially acquired a number of horses from several of the long time SMR breeders. From there, they grew their herd with a commitment to further the SMR breed and maintain breed type. In 2014 Dick and Cindy established the Spanish Mustang Preserve in Bayfield, Wisconsin (www.spanishmustangpreserve.org/) which is now home to the foundation breeding stock from the Cayuse Ranch along with Josie and Bige Brislawn.

    Dick has been a business owner since his early 20s in a variety of industries including residential construction, recreational tourism, and custom cabinetry. Dick contributes his practical planning and execution skills to the SMR board and is committed to ensuring the SMR is a sustainable organization and the SMR horse is preserved for future generations.

  • Carol Dildine is the Membership Secretary and is responsible for maintaining the membership records. All membership applications and dues should be sent to her as well as any changes in contact information; e.g. mailing or email addresses, website, phone numbers. Carol is a retired Information Technology Project Manager who is involved in numerous volunteer activities. She and husband Jim live on the CJ-8 Ranch in central Texas, about 20 miles west of Waco.

  • Lisa Mahan is the Treasurer and is from Vardaman, Mississippi. Lisa is a Registered Nurse, a community water secretary, and grandma to 4 little girls. She has been involved with promoting SMR horses since she was 15 years old and has been a member since 1995. Lisa met her husband Charles Dee Mahan while endurance riding SMR horses. The entire family enjoys riding SMR horses and carrying on the SMR heritage.

  • Simrit Prevo has been an SMR member since childhood, being the niece of Gioja Brislawn. She rode extensively through her teenage years in upstate New York, primarily in dressage and eventing. She had the privilege of learning new ways of working with horses from her uncle Emmett starting in 1985 with a visit to the Cayuse Ranch. Integrating these two sides of horsemanship, she continues to learn from the horse. This has allowed her to train her own horses, promoting the breed at horse expos, and Working Equitation shows. She owns and operates Akal Ranch in Pleasant Hill, Oregon. Simrit’s focus is to ensure the preservation and integrity of this unique and wonderful horse. She has also served as Editor of the SMR Newsletter and Annual publications in years past.

    Simrit is a certified Project Manager with experience in IT, and manufacturing. She is skilled in data management, process improvement, and software implementation. Simrit employed by Eugene Water & Electric Board as a Strategic Program Manager.

  • Rebecca Fulcher is the Points and Awards coordinator. All Points and Awards forms go to Becky. She computes them, keeps a running total of all points accumulated by each horse, makes out the certificates, and orders the plaques and awards. Show manuals and Awards Booklets are available through her.

  • Chris Thompson is the European Information Coordinator for the SMR. Professionally, he is a HAZOP chairman and is a registered European Engineer, a Chartered Engineer in the United Kingdom and a PE in California. He is a director and owner of his own company. He and his wife, Hilary, live in Twyford, Berkshire, UK and they have two grown up daughters. He first discovered Spanish Mustangs on a business assignment in Houston when arranging for a trail ride at Darolyn Butler’s Cypress trails www.horseridingdun.com when he was assigned Choctaw Travelling Man as a mount on his first trail ride. He and Choctaw became firm partners and Choctaw carried him round the 50 mile Bluebonnet Classic endurance ride, as well as many miles of trails. On his return to England, he discovered that there were Spanish Mustangs in the UK www.spanishmustangs.org.uk.

    While visiting with Martine Lettau, the importer, to get information and photos for an article on them for the Horse’s Hoof he met Brego (SMR 3449), and subsequently bought him off Martine. Brego now has his own website www.spanishmustangstallion.co.uk.
